American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Wolters Kluwer Health The incidence of acute (neutrophilic) histologic chorioamnionitis, acute funisitis, rupture site inflammation, and fetal plate inflammation were significantly higher following PPROM when compared to SPTL RESULTS: The 457 pregnancies included 293 (64.1 %) spontaneous preterrn births of which 148 (51%) were in the SPTL and 145 (49%) were in the PPROM group. Umbilical cord blood and placental tissues were also cultured for Ureaplasma urealyticum (UU) and Mycoplasma species (MYCO). Placental histopathology (for neutrophilic invasion) and anaerobic/aerobic cultures were obtained. Delivery type was categorized as described above. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective cohort study of women who had a singleton preterrn delivery < 32 weeks" gestation (GA).
